Introduction

This report describes the detailed experiences of a young adult male after ingesting a significant dose of LSD. The individual recounts the physical and psychological effects during the trip, including sensory distortions, altered perceptions of reality, and intense emotional reactions. The report also illustrates the profound impact of combining LSD with cannabis, which significantly intensified the trip, leading to both euphoric and disturbing experiences.

Subject Details

  • Age: 18 years
  • Sex: Male
  • Height: 70 inches (approximately 178 cm)
  • Weight: 230 lbs (approximately 104 kg)
  • Date of Experience: May 2021
  • Location: North Carolina, USA

Background

The subject was relatively new to psychedelic substances, having only used LSD a few times before this experience. On this occasion, the dose was larger than usual, with a total of 388 micrograms of LSD ingested. This was about 100 micrograms more than the individual had ever taken before. The method of ingestion was also different—LSD was placed under the tongue rather than on top, which led to a more intense onset. Although the individual had planned not to combine the LSD with cannabis, events later unfolded differently, intensifying the effects of the trip.

Report on the Experience

Initial Onset and Sensory Changes

At 7:15 PM, the subject placed a few tabs of LSD under his tongue while at work, planning to finish his shift and return to his apartment before the full effects set in. Approximately 45 minutes after ingestion (T+0:45), while walking back to his apartment, he noticed that colors seemed more vibrant than usual, which was unexpected as it was still early in the onset of the trip. The heightened sensory experience was welcomed, and everything seemed to be going according to plan.

At around 8:00 PM (T+1:15), the subject began to experience the slowing of time while watching television with his roommates. The sensation was a little disorienting, prompting him to retreat to his room and lie down, where he hoped to enjoy the trip in a more controlled environment.

The Intensification of the Trip

By 8:30 PM (T+1:30), the trip began to intensify significantly. The subject felt an overwhelming sense of euphoria, and the geometric visuals he encountered were far more intense than anything he had previously experienced. He described seeing intricate 3D lattice structures, primarily composed of yellow and blue hues. One vivid memory involved a golfer depicted as a lattice structure. As the golfer hit the ball, it exploded into three-dimensional fragments that morphed and flew outward, a scene that deeply amazed the subject.

However, as the trip deepened, the subject found himself unable to communicate what he was experiencing to his roommates, only able to utter words like "holy shit," "truth," and "I've never experienced anything like this before." He felt disconnected from the world, and the trip escalated into a profound and surreal experience, where words took on a new, conceptual meaning, often associated with color and feelings rather than their conventional uses.

At one point, the subject perceived a vision of two identical people made of blue flowing energy. He felt they were communicating with him non-verbally, causing him to contemplate the world beyond his current reality. This sense of wonder was momentarily followed by a fear of losing control. When the subject began thinking about the possibility of a "bad trip," it seemed to trigger a shift in his experience, and he began to feel trapped in the escalating intensity of the trip.

Psychological Challenges and Panic

Around 8:45 PM (T+1:45), the subject's experience became more unsettling. He reported seeing a vast, red landscape below him, resembling a muddy mesa, with glowing rings in the sky that twinkled and emitted a sound similar to the Minecraft XP sound. A sensation of falling intensified his anxiety, prompting him to return to the living room where his roommates were watching the show Invincible.

While watching a fight scene between characters Omni Man and Invincible, the subject experienced extreme déjà vu, believing that they had already seen the entire episode. When his roommates didn’t share this perception, he began to panic, feeling as though he was stuck in a time loop. The fear of being trapped in this loop intensified, causing him to question his sanity and the nature of his reality.

As his anxiety grew, the subject reported losing track of time and memory. At one point, he stood up and reportedly dropped his pants, though he had no recollection of this action. The subject then began wandering around the apartment, unable to orient himself in time or space. He saw a knife in the kitchen and briefly entertained the thought of suicide as a means of escaping the perceived loop.

The Hallucinations and Altered Perceptions

The trip continued to spiral downward as the subject experienced a growing sense of confusion and fear. He felt as though he was in a video game, with his roommates acting as non-playable characters (NPCs) guiding him through the experience. However, this guidance turned darker as the subject believed that his roommates were now trapped with him in the same endless loop. This feeling of entrapment escalated, and the subject's thoughts became increasingly distorted.

He began envisioning countless potential futures where the only way out of the loop was through death, reinforcing his growing sense of despair. The hallucinations became more intense and disorienting, with the subject perceiving himself as trapped in a scenario from which there was no escape. His mind began to fracture further as he believed he was experiencing "ego death," yet his ego refused to "die," which he interpreted as the cause of the trip’s intensification.

Despair and Perceived Loop

The despair continued to grow as the subject left his apartment and wandered through the complex. At one point, he arrived at a stairwell and believed he saw his own body at the bottom, where he had jumped to his death. His perception of time and space was so distorted that he saw himself walking back up the stairs only to jump off again, unable to die or escape the loop.

This sense of inescapability led him to sit down, overwhelmed by the thought, “Is this really how it ends? Is this what I’m going to have to go through?” At this moment, he saw an external image of himself, wearing glasses and with his hair tied back, even though he was not wearing glasses and had his hair down. This strange visual detail further deepened his sense of confusion.

Wandering and Self-Doubt

The subject attempted to return to his apartment, but the door was locked, which, in his mind, confirmed that he was now trapped in an area of the "game" that no longer existed. The fear that he would be stuck in this hallway until he took his own life intensified. His experience blurred the boundaries between reality and hallucination, and the subject became consumed by his belief that there was no escape from his torment.

Conclusion

The subject's trip was characterized by intense sensory alterations, profound emotional highs, and deep psychological turmoil. The combination of a high LSD dose, sublingual administration, and cannabis usage led to an overwhelming experience that included euphoria, geometric hallucinations, feelings of ego death, and a deep existential crisis. While the initial phase was euphoric and awe-inspiring, the latter stages were marked by panic, confusion, and despair, ultimately leading to a perceived inescapable loop. This experience highlights the potential for both positive and negative outcomes when using psychedelics, particularly at higher doses.
