Introduction
As I found myself with some extra time after an unusually long nap, I decided to explore a new psychedelic experience during the night. Among the available options, I chose 4-HO-MET, primarily because of its relatively short duration, which made it a practical choice for a night session. I didn’t have much prior knowledge about this substance, but the general consensus I had gathered suggested it was quite similar to psilocybin mushrooms (shrooms). This association had made me hesitant to try it for some time, but on this particular night, I finally decided to give it a go. The result was surprisingly pleasant and visually captivating.
T+0:00 (6:15) - Onset of Effects
The taste of the substance was not enjoyable, though I’ve experienced worse in the past. As I busied myself with tidying up my surroundings, I started noticing early visual distortions. These visuals were characterized by a vivid, friendly nature, and I found them intriguing. At this point, I decided to switch my music from Hardcore/Frenchcore to techno, which felt more fitting for the mood.
Physically, I experienced a mild stomach ache, but it wasn’t severe enough to be distracting. What truly captured my attention were the visuals, which had become incredibly intense. I found myself admiring their beauty as I continued to engage with my surroundings.
T+0:30 - Heightened Experience
At this stage, the effects were in full swing. I took particular pleasure in how simple tasks, like typing, were made easier by autocorrect features in programs, something I had never appreciated so much before. Music sounded absolutely incredible. Despite listening to a familiar live set I had heard countless times before, it now felt fresh and enthralling, almost like a new discovery.
The visuals were unlike anything I had seen with other psychedelics. They weren’t just vivid but seemed to convey a "message." This might not be the best word to describe it, but there was an underlying sense of purpose or meaning in the patterns and visuals that I was witnessing. They felt powerful in their clarity and vibrancy.
T+2:00 - Peak and Realization
By this point, I had spent a lot of time focusing on trying to perfect the layout of a table in a document, a task that absorbed most of my attention. I had also engaged in brief conversations on Tinychat, but nothing too engaging or deep. The effects of the drug, I realized, were already beginning to fade, much to my disappointment. This was unlike the experience I had had with other psychedelics, which tend to linger longer and fade more gradually. The rapid decline in intensity left me feeling somewhat let down.
T+2:30 - Reflections on Feelings
At this juncture, I took a moment to reflect on the emotional and physical sensations I had experienced throughout the trip. Up until this point, I had been too distracted by visual distortions and my own attempts to perfect the document’s layout to fully acknowledge my feelings.
The trip was characterized by a sense of freedom and mild euphoria. There was an underlying feeling that I could achieve anything I set my mind to, although this belief didn’t necessarily translate into reality. Instead, I found myself easily distracted and obsessively focused on minor details. My attempts to perfect the document’s alignment ended up being hindered by my own perceptual distortions, which I now realized were a direct result of the psychedelic experience.
Conclusion
In conclusion, 4-HO-MET was not what I had expected, but it provided an incredibly colorful and visually stunning experience. Although it lacked the depth and introspective quality that I often seek in psychedelic trips, the sheer beauty and intensity of the visuals made up for this. The experience was brief, but the visuals were nothing short of spectacular, making it feel like a festival of colors.
Throughout the trip, I witnessed extraordinary patterns and structures. These differed greatly from what I had previously seen during other psychedelic experiences. The level of detail was astonishing, with intricate swirls composed of countless tiny, high-definition dots, each dot radiating its own unique and indescribably vibrant color. The precision and beauty of these patterns left a lasting impression.
